Medals

Day 213 of 365- July 31st We are loving the Olympics!  The swimming competitions are definitely our favorites to watch and there have been some great ones this time around!  We have also been enjoying the gymnastics, volleyball, and cycling and are looking forward to the track and field competition to get going this weekend. With this much TV time going on in the house, it’s pretty much a given that there would be some things we would rather the boys not see.  It has been disappointing to see the negative coverage from the media.  At one point, the word “Disaster” was...

The Beginning of our 5th Year!

Day 212 of 365- July 30th We started our school year today.  It is hard to believe but we have a 6th grader, 5th grader, and a kindergartner in our midst now!  I am a little nervous about how things are going to go with 3 full time students instead of 2.  Caleb’s enthusiasm about it all will definitely help.  When we began this journey of homeschooling 5 years ago, I could have never predicted how much we would have experienced by this point.  Each and every experience has been priceless.  I am so thankful.  Working on science together.  Caleb is so excited to have a subject to...

Exploring the Area

Day 211 of 365- July 29th We stayed after church this afternoon to attend a youth meeting for parents of new 6th graders.  (Are we really to this age?  I am not ready!)  Adam and I feel completely at peace with our decision on a church here, mainly because of its youth program.  We pray that Sumner fits in with ease and is challenged in his growth with the Lord within this program. As we were heading out from church we decided to take a drive down River Road.  This road is famous for its plantation homes as it follows the twists and turns of the Mississippi River down to the Gulf.  We...

Ringing in the Olympics!

Day 209 of 365- July 27th We have been counting down the days and the Olympics are finally here!  Sumner and Jonah remember the last Summer Olympics of 2008 well, but for Caleb everything is new.  He has gotten right into it with the rest of us, even staying up for the entire opening ceremony.  Of course, everything is better with cake!  This was a first try for me making a sugar cookie cake with royal icing and it passed with flying colors!   Day 210 of 365- July 28th We worked around the house on Saturday before Adam had to head in to work to deal with an issue.  He made it back...

A Little Organization

Day 208 of 365- July 26th We spent a good part of the day in Sumner and Jonah’s room, working to organize their legos and do some cleaning.  They were thrilled with the results from all of their hard work and couldn’t wait to show daddy when he got home. Quote of the Day: When we were done with their closet, Jonah took a step back and said, “Wow.  That’s a clean closet.  Mommy knows how to...
