The Boys’ New Best Friend

Week #45 of 52- November 9th We headed to our favorite beignet place in town for a sweet treat before a day of soccer.  Let’s just say that the boys instantly loved the lady in charge of the powdered sugar this morning. Would you like some “Beignet” with that powdered...

School, This Week

Week #45 of 52- November 7th As we were just starting the school day, I noticed this little guy watching us through the school room window.  Yes, he is cute but do you know how many of these cute little guys are living just outside our door??  Too many!  The boys have named several of them and know them by their markings.   We have a new Geography program this year and are absolutely loving it!  It has really surprised all of us.  In fact, when I mentioned it to the boys at the beginning of our school year, I got “Oy’s,” and “Oh no’s,” ”...

Crawfish Time!

Week #12 of 52- March 25th The Neals wanted true Louisianan experiences while they were here visiting with us.  We crossed off a couple yesterday with the Plantation Tour and the Beignets.  Another one will be crossed off for them tomorrow when they embark on a swamp tour.  But this evening, it was time for one of the most authentic “Louisianan”  experiences of all, crawfish!  Let me start off by saying that Emily is NOT a seafood fan.  She never has been and probably never will be, especially after our experience this evening.  🙂We have had crawfish a few times already...

More From Nottoway

Week #12 of 52- March 24th After our photo shoot at the Nottoway Plantation, we went on a house tour of the 53,00 square foot mansion.  (53,000 sq. ft.!!)  To say the house was impressive would be a great understatement.  It was beautiful.  From the details of the woodwork and trim to the 3 levels of rooms and amenities, this one is quite the standout. The trim work throughout the first floor was gorgeous. One of the main rooms on the first floor, the Grand White Ballroom,  is just that… all white. It was used for the owner’s daughters debuts to society and also for their...
