Jonah’s Science Experiment

January 21st, 2016 Jonah and Adam have been working on a Balloon Race Car for Jonah’s Physical Science Class.  The rules were that it could only move using one balloon, and had to be made out of products you could easily find in your house.  They had so much fun with this!  They had a couple different versions for the car, but in the end the one made out of an Optimus Prime mask, back wheels out of CDs, and a hidden ping pong ball for the front wheel won out.  Jonah ended up taking second place in the race, losing by a fraction of an inch.  It didn’t matter though, he had too...

Planting Seeds

Week #39 of 52- September 24th One of the biggest benefits of homeschooling for us has been the freedom to choose our own curriculum.  I love that we read the Bible every day in our History and Science lessons.  It is so important to Adam and I for the boys’ education to be based on the truths God has given us in the Bible. Jonah and Caleb had a science project today based on Matthew 13:3-8.  In the verses Jesus shares a parable about sharing the good news of Him being like planting seeds : 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed....

Hodge Podge

Week #34 of 52- August 21st-23rd This will be a bit of a hodge podge post in order to get this blog updated again.  🙂 First up- Jonah and Caleb’s science assignment on Wednesday.  They are studying Botany this year and were instructed to build a flower out of clay.  They worked together and I was rather impressed with their creation!  It’s confirmation to me that they are truly understanding everything that is being taught.  They included every single detail we have talked about in the last few weeks on the parts of a flower. Jonah and Caleb’s creation. Now onto...

The Beginning of Our 7th Year

Week #28 of 52- July 8-13th We started our seventh year of homeschooling this week.  I know I say it every year, but I can’t believe we are here.  7 years.  Adam and I jumped into homeschooling after Sumner’s year in Kindergarten, knowing with 100% certainty that God was leading us on this path.  In the beginning, I was scared to death.  My fears have slowly turned into confidence as God continues to provide encouragement through family and friends and gives me moments of reassurance as I am teaching the boys.  I am so thankful for the blessing that homeschooling has been to...

A Field Trip to the K-9 Police Training Facility

Week #25 of 52- June 21st The boys and I joined with a local Homeschool Field Trip Group for a tour of the local K-9 Police Training Facility.  Despite it being 94 degrees outside, this field trip was awesome!  The highlight was definitely the dogs, but the tour also included a question and answer session with the Police Motorcycle Unit along with seeing the S.W.A.T. team vehicles.  All of this was a dream come true for my boys and gave us a great excuse to take an excursion outdoors since we have been hibernating in this heat!  Another detail that I really appreciated was that the main...
